Analyze a Message

Purpose

Analyze a specific error, warning, or scrap-related message to understand how often it occurs, how long it lasts, and what to do next.

Steps

  1. Open a widget that lists or visualizes messages (for example a Pareto chart, timeline chart, history list, or live alerts).
  2. Select the message entry you want to investigate.
  3. Choose Analyze message.
  4. Review:
  5. occurrences (timestamps)
  6. durations and statistics (min/max/average)
  7. "time until next appearance" intervals (if available)
  8. If available, choose Get help to view guidance based on linked instructions.

What users see

  • An action selection view (analyze / get help / ignore) depending on permissions.
  • A detailed analysis view with history and statistics.

Best practices

  • Capture the message index/text, machine name, and a timestamp before escalating.
  • Use analysis results to distinguish rare incidents from recurring patterns.

Troubleshooting

  • The analyze action is missing -> Missing permission or unsupported message type -> Ask an admin to review your role -> Escalate with message text/index and a screenshot (if allowed)
  • Data looks incomplete -> Time range too narrow or filters locked -> Expand time range and verify machine selection -> Escalate with the filters you used
